FASHION DESIGNER | RICHARD NICOLL

FASHION DESIGNER | RICHARD NICOLL

I promised you guys that I will try to re-create the best 100 new fashion designers list on a weekly bases to see if this helps. I just thought it was odd that some of the designs in the “100 New Fashion Designers” book look kinda wack.

This week British designer #4 Richard Nicoll made it into my “100 New Fashion Designers” list, a designer who graduated from Central Saint Martins. After his entire graduation collection was purchased by Dolce & Gabbana, he worked as a freelance design consultant for Louis Vuittion alongside Marc Jacobs. However, in 2005 Richard Nicoll set up his own brand. He showed his first collection in Spring Summer 2005 as part of the Fashion East sponsorship during London Fashion Week. Since his debut collection, Richard Nicoll has become very highly regarded by both the press and buyers alike, and he is thought to be one of the most talented young designers around. He seems to favour shaped, sculptured designs and he uses blocks of colour to emphasise the shape of his creations. I LIKE YOU!!!

FASHION DESIGNER | TIM HAMILTON

FASHION DESIGNER | TIM HAMILTON

I promised you guys that I will try to re-create the best 100 new fashion designers list on a weekly bases to see if this helps. I just thought it was odd that some of the designs in the “100 New Fashion Designers” book look kinda wack.

This week American designer #3 Tim Hamilton made it into my “100 New Fashion Designers” list, a designer who only briefly attended college at the state’s university. After dropping out, Hamilton headed to Miami for a fun and glamorous week-long sojourn that he intended to follow with a quick trip to New York. Once he got to the Big Apple, however, his short visit turned into a permanent stay. While working at a Ralph Lauren boutique, the label’s designers couldn’t help but notice Hamilton’s fantastic sense of style, and the soon-to-be fashion star was offered a position at RL’s headquarters, which he followed up with an internship at Parsons’s New School of Design and a stint at J.Crew. Based in the USA, Tim Hamilton launched his menswear collection in 2007. He decided to follow his dream and launched his own signature collection after recognizing a void in the men’s market for luxury sportswear. In 2007 the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) nominated Hamilton for the Swarovski Award for Menswear, which honours emerging newcomers on the fashion scene. I LIKE YOU!!!

FASHION DESIGNER | JAN TAMINIAU

FASHION DESIGNER | JAN TAMINIAU

I promised you guys that I will try to re-create the best 100 new fashion designers list on a weekly bases to see if this helps. I just thought it was odd that some of the designs in the “100 New Fashion Designers” book look kinda wack.

This week Dutch designer #2 Jan Taminiau made it into my “100 New Fashion Designers” list, a graduate from the Academy of Art in Arnhem and pursued a master’s degree at the Fashion Institute of Arnhem while working as an apprentice for Olivier Theyskens, Oscar Suleyman and Hubert Barrère in Paris (corsetier for Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Madonna). He presented his master’s program project, “Unfolding,” during couture week in January 2003, followed by a window installation at the Colette shop in Paris. In 2005 he launched his own label JAN TAMINIAU. The Dutch designer -who works in Amsterdam, but shows in Paris- seems to have found his purpose in life. His quest for beauty is captivating. His women are confident, independent thinkers who value craft and hard work. Oh, so that’s why maby Lady Gaga was recently seen in Paris wearing a creation of Dutch designer Jan Taminiau. Gaga’s outfit was from Taminiau’s autumn/winter 2011 haute couture collection, which played with classical silhouettes, and gave them a modern twist. I can hardly wait to see what’s next. He may even start a new line of classic men’s clothing, LOL.

FASHION DESIGNER | HENRIK VIBSKOV

FASHION DESIGNER | HENRIK VIBSKOV

Looking through my book of ‘100 New Fashion Designers’ (Hywel Davies) I bought last week at bookstore MENDO, I came across a few names that I haven’t heard before. This amazing book showcases the diverse and unique work of the ‘best’ 100 new creatives in fashion design from around the world. Ok……not to start a flamewar or anything, but is this the ultimate reference guide to the world? Nah, I don’t think so!!! I will try to re-create the list on a weekly bases to see if this helps, I just thought it was odd that some of the designs look kinda wack though.

#1 Henrik Vibskov is an amazingly talented fashion designer from Jutland, Denmark. He is know today for his colorful edgy patterns and interesting oversized cuts. He designs both men’s and women’s and has ventured into more commercial and artist projects than most people would ever realize. Each year, Scandinavian designer Henrik Vibskov takes his 100 Days concept to a new city for a special pop-up store. The traveling store is currently set at SPR in Amsterdam. Check em’ out he has been designing some of the coolest clothing in a while.
