10 MEN | IN ONE MINUTE

10 MEN | IN ONE MINUTE

Everyone should check out the latest issue of 10 Men Magazine Winter Preview. 10 Men is a magazine containing men’s fashion, articles, great photography and reviews. It’s definitely one of my favourite magazines in the world so far. After reading so many magazines every month, it is only natural we develop our own preferences. And I must admit I’m quite a magazine junkie. I started off of course with Dutch magazines but those magazines bore me a lot, and it takes a lot to bore me. I ended up on picking up lots of magazines to read to only 3 great magazines to pick from named Inventory magazine, Workwear and 10 MEN magazine. I consider these magazines as the basics of all new and old topics on fashion, lifestyle and art. Anyone wanting to know about this ought to have a look to these wonderful magazines. I also really really love the cover of the latest issue of 10 Men. I always feel that magazines should produce covers that would entice people to pick it up to have a read, as well as making the readers want that piece of clothing on the cover. For a proper good look you’ll have to go out and buy it, definitely worth checking out!!!

PABLO PICASSO | MODERN MASTER

PABLO PICASSO | MODERN MASTER

Pablo Ruiz Picasso was a famous Spanish painter, draughtsman, and sculptor who lived most of his adult life in France; he is best known for co-founding the Cubist movement and for the wide variety of styles embodied in his work. Among his most popular works are the proto-Cubist Les Demoiselles d’Avignon (1907) and Guernica (1937), his portrayal of the German bombing of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War. Still, after watching this old video from the Golden Girls- an old American sitcom about four previously married women, it makes you wonder if the story about Tête de Femme”, what actually means “Head of a Woman” in French is true. If it makes you wonder, it’s Not A Shame!!! It’s worth checking out the work of Pablo Picasso, even if you’re not much of an art-lover you will fall in love with his creations. On a side note, the painting of Pablo Picasso’s Tête de Femme is a portrait of the artist’s second wife, Jacqueline.

ARTIFACT DESIGN | DECADES

ARTIFACT DESIGN | DECADES

Artifact Design is an award-winning 2D and 3D design studio based in Atlanta and LA. They originally made this video as a part of a commercial spot about hamburgers throughout recent American history. However, the potential also existed for the set to be the stage for a visual exploration in lighting, composition, and cinematography. So the assets were repurposed to try and achieve that goal. I’m pretty sure I was born in the wrong decade but stuff like this makes it bearable. The end result is a very nice retro piece detailing the styles of the 50′s 60′s and 70′s, I love it!!!!

RICARDO TISCI | GIVENCHY COUTURE FALL 2011

RICARDO TISCI | GIVENCHY COUTURE FALL 2011

Givenchy‘s Riccardo Tisci represents to me a particular class of designers whose intricate visionary masterpieces defy the real world so utterly that they can sometimes scarcely be called clothes at all. In the mind’s eye of the designer and the hands of his atelier craftspeople, a world within a world is created – a symbolic landscape where the subconscious sweeps through with all the force of a hurricane. For this collection, Riccardo Tisci has taken inspiration from the bird of paradise – both the mythical animal and the flower. The dresses are airy and structured and make use of angelic colours and light materials. The thick plastic zippers, strategically-placed sheer cutouts and calculated overabundance of embellishments ensured that the pure intentions were tempered by a pinch of beauteous transgression: the hallmark of a tried-and-true Radical Perfectionist.

Blue Gold is a new documentary on the iconic blue jeans – from the working man’s pants to the phenomenon it is today. The film includes stories from collectors, vendors, historians and denim legends. YVES SAINT LAURENT | L’AMOUR FOU

YVES SAINT LAURENT | L’AMOUR FOU

If fashion is at the forefront of your brain my fellow readers- I’m not even sure if this rhetorical questions is moving the story along – but have I got a movie for you! L’Amour Fou is a documentary by Pierre Thoretton about the rise of famous fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé. It is not the first documentary on the Fashion Icon but probably the most intimate to date. Designer Yves Saint Laurent met and fell in love with the industrialist and patron Pierre Bergé in 1958 and were inseparable until the fashion powerhouse’s death in 2008. Following his passing, Bergé decided to auction off the art collection that they had both collected for years, which was spread across three lavish homes. As you can imagine, the process was a quite a daunting task, both an emotionally and physically.

Two Other Excellent Documentaries on YSL made during his lifetime. The 1992 documentary – 10 years before the closure of Yves Saint Laurent haute couture : Provides the look at the life and career of the legendary designer.

A very interesting story about copyright issues and a single photo stolen over the internet. The worst and the best of the Internet. That’s all.

BILL CUNNINGHAM | NEW YORK

BILL CUNNINGHAM | NEW YORK

“We all get dressed for Bill,” says Anna Wintour. The ‘Bill’ in question was photographing street fashions decades before The Sartorialist and Tommy Ton. Bill Cunningham, 81, has been documenting the fashions found on New York Streets for already 50 years now. He can be found riding his bike around the streets of New York, day and night, with a smashed Nikon camera. Bill goes everywhere on his bicycle, gnawing anything that catches his eye. “The most appropriate fashion uncover is unquestionably on the street,” he says in the film. “Always has been. Always will be.” Cant wait to see this movie!!!
