BLUE GOLD | AMERICAN JEANS

BLUE GOLD | AMERICAN JEANS

Denim sparks creativity not only in those who manufacture but also in people who are not related to the industry at all. Christian D Bruun and Mark Romeo have been attracted enough to denim to make a full documentary on it and to have shot it all over the world. Blue Gold is a new documentary on the iconic blue jeans – from the working man’s pants to the phenomenon it is today. The film includes stories from collectors, vendors, historians and denim legends. If there is a documentary to get me more amped to watch, it would be this one.

YVES SAINT LAURENT | L’AMOUR FOU

YVES SAINT LAURENT | L’AMOUR FOU

If fashion is at the forefront of your brain my fellow readers- I’m not even sure if this rhetorical questions is moving the story along – but have I got a movie for you! L’Amour Fou is a documentary by Pierre Thoretton about the rise of famous fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé. It is not the first documentary on the Fashion Icon but probably the most intimate to date. Designer Yves Saint Laurent met and fell in love with the industrialist and patron Pierre Bergé in 1958 and were inseparable until the fashion powerhouse’s death in 2008. Following his passing, Bergé decided to auction off the art collection that they had both collected for years, which was spread across three lavish homes. As you can imagine, the process was a quite a daunting task, both an emotionally and physically.

Two Other Excellent Documentaries on YSL made during his lifetime. The 1992 documentary – 10 years before the closure of Yves Saint Laurent haute couture : Provides the look at the life and career of the legendary designer.

Just look at his clientele list, it speaks for itself. I hope to add my name to that list one day. Watch the trailer below and enjoy!!!

BILL CUNNINGHAM | NEW YORK

BILL CUNNINGHAM | NEW YORK

“We all get dressed for Bill,” says Anna Wintour. The ‘Bill’ in question was photographing street fashions decades before The Sartorialist and Tommy Ton. Bill Cunningham, 81, has been documenting the fashions found on New York Streets for already 50 years now. He can be found riding his bike around the streets of New York, day and night, with a smashed Nikon camera. Bill goes everywhere on his bicycle, gnawing anything that catches his eye. “The most appropriate fashion uncover is unquestionably on the street,” he says in the film. “Always has been. Always will be.” Cant wait to see this movie!!!

INSIDE JOB | OFFICIAL TRAILER

INSIDE JOB | OFFICIAL TRAILER

Wow! Sony pictures, not exactly an alternative media for purists, thrashes the banker caste. This documentary breaks down the who, why and what’s of the economic crash of 2008, which caused the financial crisis we’re all in today. If you can stomach a look back at the last few years, see Inside Job. I guarantee you will giggle and seethe as you watch Iceland and America get crushed by the economic tsunami both countries are still recovering from.

LIMITLESS | OFFICIAL TRAILER

“Forget red and blue pills; the clear pill is the last drug you’ll ever need!” At least that’s what Bradley Cooper promises in his new promo for Limitless. Based on the novel ‘The Dark Fields’ by Alan Glynn, Limitless follows a frustrated author (Cooper) who is enticed to take a new wonder drug that allows him to use all of his brain. While he becomes smart and successful in rapid time, something unsettling is happening behind the scenes… Naturally, the perfection he achieves with the drug eventually comes tumbling down.

At the end of the trailer they play ‘Power’ by Kanye West. “No one man should have all that power. The clock’s tickin’, I just count the hours. Stop trippin’, I’m trippin’ off the power. ‘Til then, fuck that, the World’s ours”. The soundtrack couldn’t have been any better, enjoy!!!

I AM | OFFICIAL TRAILER

I AM | OFFICIAL TRAILER

A simple trailer for Tom Shadyac’s ”I Am” has me honestly questioning my stance on life, human nature and mankind’s ability to make a difference in an often savage world. To sum it up, I am deeply moved by this trailer, and if I could get my hands on a copy of the film today, I’d do with no hesitation. Watch the trailer, it’s a preview to a piece of artwork that may be one of the best documentaries ever shot.

MOVIE | WE ALL WANT TO BE YOUNG

MOVIE | WE ALL WANT TO BE YOUNG

Big big kudos to BOX1824 for creating this amazing video. The movie “We All Want to Be Young” is the outcome of several studies developed by BOX1824 in the past five years. BOX1824 is a Brazilian research company specialized in behavioral sciences and consumer trends. I experienced many feelings while watching this video – happiness, fear, anxiety but most importantly overwhelming joy and ambition. I’m totally thankful to be living in this time and really digging the soundtrack. Let’s walk away from this with the following lesson: We all want to be young. And, life goes by fast, you don’t want to miss it, enjoy it to the fullest!!
